Arcade Fire recently wrapped up recording on their next album, but the famed Montreal act is also paying tribute to rock and world music legend Peter Gabriel on an upcoming Gabriel tribute album, And I’ll Scratch Yours.
The album is a sequel to Gabriel’s 2010 release, Scratch My Back, which saw the English songwriter covering tunes by Neil Young, Radiohead, Arcade Fire, Bon Iver and David Byrne.
Get a taste of Arcade Fire’s contribution, a cover of "Games Without Frontiers," and check out the full tracks by Lou Reed and Bon Iver, below.
"Rather than make a traditional covers record, I thought it would be much more fun to create a new type of project in which artists communicated with each other and swapped a song for a song, i.e. you do one of mine and I'll do one of yours, hence the title — Scratch My Back — And I'll Scratch Yours," says Gabriel on his website.
Now several of the same artists, and a few newcomers to the project, are scratching Gabriel’s back with interpretations of his songs. Reed has created a “snarling" "Solsbury Hill” while Brian Eno's version of "Mother of Violence" is described as "frighteningly futuristic.”
Also included on the album are Feist (she’s singing the haunting song “Don’t Give Up”), Bon Iver ("Come Talk To Me"), David Byrne ("I Don’t Remember"), Joseph Arthur ("Shock the Monkey"), Paul Simon ("Biko") and more.
And I’ll Scratch Yours is being released on Sept. 23. For a full track listing, go here.
